Leaf creations

On Wednesday Room 2 went on an autumn walk around the school. They discovered lots of fallen leaves and acorns. They decided they could create things with them.

James A found some leaves that reminded him of dragons wings.
Eliott fanned his leaved out in his hand and thought they'd make a great fan.


Back in the classroom they all created their art works then shared back to the class.

They are now up on the wall ready for you all to see next term.

Making mouse traps

We made mouse traps with mrs Reid. We read a story called Mice in the Kitchen. The people were scared of the mice so we made traps to help them.

Laurel Burch Cats

We have created some beautiful cats in the style of Laurel Burch. She was an American artist, who painted using bright colours. She painted lots of cats and they had lots of cool patterns on them.

We learnt about warm colours and cold colours and did an experiment to see what colours mix to make new colours.

Here are our cats. Can you tell which are done using cold colours?

Buddy Time

Today we had buddy time with Room 16. They helped us write predictions for our colour experiments. We read to them and they read to us. We had fun!

Colour mixing experiment

Today we did some colour mixing experiments.

We put dye into test tubes to see what colours we would make.

Then we did a walking water experiment.

We had a cup of blue dye and a cup of yellow dye. We put paper towels into the dye and the other end into an empty cup. We predicted what would happen








The dye moved down the paper towel and mixed into green dye in the bottom cup!




We are going to leave it over night to see if more dye moves.

The Big Egg Hunt

In the weekend Miss Dippie found some beautiful giant eggs in different locations in Christchurch.
Today we wrote stories about why they were there.

 On Friday, the Year 1 and 2’s went to the Sumner Beach. I made Cave Rock and it had an underground tunnel. I made it with Bruno. First, I made a big pile of sand. Then, I started to dig the tunnel and it kept falling down. On the way back I saw Tyus. It was super ginormous day!

On Friday we went to Sumner Beach to have Discovery. When we came it was morning. We made sandcastles. I made it with Summer. She made it with me.
